Ontario firefighting management and personnel have been deployed B.C., Albert and N.W.T. to help with the severe forest fire situation there

For the fourth day in row, fire officials say there have been no new confirmed wildfires in Ontario's Northeast Region.

Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services says there remain 33 active wildland fires in the northeast. Of these, four are under control and 29 are being observed.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry's firefighting arm says the wildland fire hazard values are low to moderate across the region today with the exception of two pockets with high fire hazard values: one large area to the north centred around Muswabik Lake north of the Albany River and another small area centred around Smoky Falls north of Kapuskasing.

This past week, smoke from wildfires in northern Quebec along the James Bay coast was drifting down into northern Ontario, impacting air quality.

Environment Canada now says wildfire smoke drifting from British Columbia and the Northwest Territories has created hazardous air quality in parts of northern Ontario that could get worse this coming week. Read more here.

The MNRF posted a tweet this weekend saying a 16-person incident management team and 11 members of fire management personnel from AFFES are deployed to British Columbia, while a five-person IMT, 14 members of fire management personnel and 40 FireRangers are deployed to the Northwest Territories. Ontario has also exported equipment to Alberta, B.C. and N.W.T.
