In a news release from the Elliot Lake Fire Department, Fire Chief John Thomas announced today that at 7:45 a.m. today, the fire department responded to a 911 call for a working fire at 239 Westhill Road.
“Upon arrival on scene, the fire department crew reported smoke visible. The fire was brought under control by 8:06 a.m. with heavy fire damage to the kitchen area.”
“There was approximately $93,000 in damage done to the trailer. There were no injuries to report. The cause of the fire was a pot left on the stove.”
Fire Chief Thomas explained to ElliotLakeToday, that the report of water discolouration in the same neighbourhood is a normal occurrence when the fire department draws water from a fire hydrant because the rapid movement of water raises silt that gradually accumulates in water mains.
Thomas would like to remind the public “to never leave cooking appliances unattended when in use.”
“Every home in Ontario must have a working smoke alarm on every story and outside all sleeping areas.”
