Algoma Public Health and the Huron Shores Family Health Team have opened up more opportunities for eligible individuals to receive their next COVID-19 booster dose as we head into the holiday season.

It can take up to two weeks for the vaccine to take affect and by booking your appointment today it ensures that you are fully protected in time for the holiday season, the public health unit said in a news release.

“Staying up to date with your COVID-19 vaccine series by getting a booster dose remains a simple and critical layer of protection to stay healthy this holiday season,” said Dr. John Tuinema, acting medical officer of health at Algoma Public Health.

“Booster doses are recommended because over time, protection from COVID-19 vaccines decreases. A booster reminds your immune system how to protect itself and improves your protection against COVID-19, reducing your risk of severe illness or hospitalization if you do get infected.”

Additional vaccination opportunities have opened up at the Sault Ste. Marie and Richards Landing COVID-19 clinics for anyone aged six months and up.

To find a date and time, phone 705-541-7370 or 1-888-440-3730 (phone lines will be open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) or visit Vaccine Clinics in Algoma online to make an appointment.

Meanwhile, the Huron Shores Family Health Team, in partnership with Algoma Public Health will be hosting two mass COVID-19 immunization clinics at 527 Causley St. in Blind River on Nov. 30 and Dec. 14.
