With the Ontario government's decision to maintain its COVID-19 related stay-at-home order until May 19, 2021, the City of Elliot Lake has decided to postpone its annual Miners' Memorial Naming Ceremony this year.

Normally it is held to coincide with the National Day of Mourning on April 28. That's the date that commemorates Canadian workers injured and killed while in the workplace, or after sustaining workplace-related injuries.

The City announced the names of this year's honorees last month.

"We have decided to hold off until sometime in June when we will then hold it," Elliot Lake's Manager of Recreation and Culture Darla Hennessey told ElliotLakeToday. "This year we have six names being engraved on the Wall (Miners' Memorial Wall)"

"Mayor (Dan) Marchisella and Councillor Ed Pearce will be at the site (off Highway 108) on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at 11 a.m.," Hennessey said.
