The popular Horne Lake Memorial Fountain is undergoing repairs after several components have failed requiring the city to order up some $20,000 in parts to replace it.

Bill Goulding, Acting Director of Public Works, noted the fountain has had several different parts over the years replaced. He said public works staff recommended the fountain be replaced and most of the parts have arrived with the exception of some important parts tied up in customs.

Some members of the public have been wondering about the status of the memorial fountain in Horne Lake which remains turned off until repairs are completed.

This spring, staff recognized that the existing fountain was beyond economic repair. It is worth understanding that the ‘fountain’ is not one thing - it is a system of made up of different wearable and serviceable parts. Public works has cared for and maintained the system, continually repairing and replacing parts over the years since Sobey’s donation of the fountain and its initial installation. As of this spring, enough major components had worn out that it made sense to replace the entirety of the system, Goulding said.

He said once all parts are received reactivating the fountain should only take a matter of hours.
