Veteran Township of the North Shore Councillor Melody Rose has been appointed Acting Mayor of the Township Council.

The appointment came during an emergency Virtual Township Council meeting held online via ZOOM Friday afternoon.

In attendance at the virtual meeting were Councillor (now Acting Mayor) Rose, Councillor Brenda Green, Councillor Gary Gamble, Clerk-Administrator Mary Lynn Duguay and lawyer Paul Cassan of the Sault Ste. Marie Wishart Law Firm.

The virtual meeting was held following the recent resignation of former Acting Mayor, Councillor Barb Barton.

Last November, former Township Mayor Randi Condie tendered his resignation.

The latest defection left the five member Township Council, elected in 2018, two councillors short.

Council of the Township of the North Shore will hold another special meeting via ZOOM on Monday morning at 9:30 a.m..

At that time the three member council will be asked to consider a bylaw to confirm Acting Mayor Rose's appointment.
