It's officially Hockey Week in Elliot Lake.
Mayor Andrew Wannan made the proclamation as residents prepare to spend the 32 hours between 9 a.m. on Friday and 5 p.m. on Saturday voting online in the Kraft Hockeyville contest.
Elliot Lake is one of four communities vying for a top prize of $250,000, which if successful, it will use to repair the Centennial Arena. The facility has been closed since September.
The winning community will be announced on that Saturday's Hockey Night in Canada broadcast. In addition to the prize money, they'll get to host to an NHL preseason game.
Each of the three runners up will receive $25,000 for arena upgrades.
In addition to registering on the Kraft Hockeyville website where voting will take place, residents are being encouraged to wear their favourite team jerseys and even play a little ball hockey.

PROCLAMATION:
WHEREAS Elliot Lake has been selected as one of the four finalists in the 2024 Kraft Hockeyville contest; and
WHEREAS the great citizens of Elliot Lake have come together in a moving groundswell of Support.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ANDREW WANNAN, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF ELLIOT LAKE hereby proclaim March 25th to the 31st 2024 as “Hockey Week” in the City of Elliot Lake.
I encourage you to wear your jerseys, fly tour team’s flag on your car or home, get outside and play some ball hockey regardless of your age and put a Kraft Hockeyville poster in your window. No matter what team you cheer for we want to see everyone support the cause and help us win Kraft Hockeyville 2024!
