SAULT STE. MARIE - Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School in Elliot Lake had the pleasure recently of hosting their provincial legislative representative.

Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Mike Mantha had the opportunity to visit the school and learn about the distinct difference between public and Catholic schools.

“We were very pleased to have Mr. Mantha visit Our Lady of Fatima. It was a tremendous opportunity for us to show our value to education and the community,” said Our Lady of Fatima Principal Maria Young.

The school hosted a liturgy related to Palm Sunday, broadcasted a slide show showcasing the service orientation of the students and staff, and offered a community circle where staff and students spoke passionately about what Catholic education means to them.

Mr. Mantha himself participated in this community circle and shared reflections on his own life journey.

“I was very proud to be at Our Lady of Fatima to meet Mr. Mantha and to witness this incredible demonstration of faith in action,” said Director of Education Rose Burton Spohn.

“In particular, the community circle was a powerful testament to the impact of Catholic education in the lives of students and their families.”

“I was very pleased to visit with students, staff and administration at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School. It is essential that elected leaders at all levels develop and maintain strong relations with administrators and staff. Of primary importance, however, is the relationship that leaders develop with students. The best way to engage and prepare our youth for tomorrow is to demonstrate that they matter and we care for them today,” said MPP Mantha.

Also on hand to meet with Mr. Mantha were Fr. Alex Saurianthadathil, Trustee Lindsay Liske, OECTA President Darrell Czop, and OECTA Vice-President Sergio Bernardo.
