Election day in Ontario.

Anyone looking to vote in the upcoming municipal election is being asked to go online to make sure your information is accurate.

City of Elliot Lake officials say it's important for voters to use the city website to ensure they are included on the voter's list for the Oct. 22 election. They say it is especially important for anyone who has recently moved into the city so they receive a voter's card at their home location.

From the city election site you will be led to the provincial MPAC website.

Residents are being asked to supply their name, birth date and residence address on the website. The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) owns the site and is responsible for identifying all potential municipal and school board electors.

MPAC provides the information to election clerks in support of local election events. The site is also used to collect the names of all occupants in a household and is provided to municipalities and school boards to assist them with planning. Voters without internet access can visit Elliot Lake city hall at Clerk Natalie Bray's office to have amendments made to their voter information. You can call the city during normal business hours at 705-848-2287 for more information.  Information is also available via email at [email protected]

The main voting location is Collins Hall on Hillside North on voting day Oct. 22 (from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.)

When you go to the polling location you need to bring government issued photo ID or a piece of mail with your name and address. Special voting places in the city on Oct. 22 include St. Joseph's Manor (11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.), Huron Lodge (10:30 a.m. to 12 noon) and Hillside Park (1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.). Residents of these facilities will all be voting at their respective locations.

If you are planning to vote by proxy for someone else you need to get the forms to do this at Clerk Bray's office at city hall. Advance polls for the Oct. 22 municipal election will be held at Elliot Lake city hall from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 5, 6, 9, 10 and 11.
