Beamish Construction Inc. will again handle the operation of Elliot Lake’s landfill for the next year. Beamish has been hired to handle garbage coming into the site since 2013 and the coming year will see a contract cost of $292,278.92 plus HST for the period from July 1 to June 30, 2024.

The city had originally budgeted $300,000 for the operation of the dump with slightly more than $8,000 in savings with the new contract.

Council also received a request from Beamish to extend its contract for three years to allow it to handle changes in equipment that might happen due to operational changes at the site. The facility is currently undergoing changes that will extend the life of the dump.

The extension is expected to see the annual cost of the consumer price index increase in the contract based on Statistics Canada calculations.

Beamish Construction Inc. for a three-year contract extension from July 1, 2023, until June 30 2026 at a cost of $292,278.92 + HST for the period of July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024, and with annual CPI adjustments thereafter as described in this report.

Monies to support payment of the contract are to be drawn from the annual operating budget, Bill Goulding acting director of Public Works said in a report to council Monday.

Entering an agreement for the provision of landfill operations with Beamish Construction Inc. for a three-year period starting on July 1 until June 30, 2026, provides the necessary continuity of service while city staff along with Tulloch Engineering can complete a more detailed scope when it comes to both the design and operation of the city landfill, Goulding said.

Council agreed to the contract and possible extension.
