The Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board is pleased to announce the beginning of its multi-year plan to improve both of its schools in Elliot Lake.

For this summer alone, the board has budgeted a total of $2 million for improvements to Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Elementary School and Our Lady of Lourdes French Immersion Catholic Elementary School. The plans are for each school to receive approximately $1 million in improvements this summer.

The main focus for stage one of the projects at both schools is to improve kindergarten classrooms and create secure outdoor play areas for kindergarten students. Classroom layout will be enhanced, a dedicated washroom will be added, and lighting and ventilation will be improved. These improvements are scheduled to be completed prior to the start of the 2021 - 2022 school year.

“All of these improvements are designed with our students and staff in mind. The upgrades will create more inviting working and learning spaces for those who will be in these classrooms. We know such spaces help improve outcomes for students,” said Director of Education, Rose Burton Spohn.

In addition, the main student and staff washrooms will be updated and universal access washrooms will be added in each school. All improvements will be done in compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.

The board has plans for further improvements at both Our Lady of Fatima and Our Lady of Lourdes over the next few years
