Hospitalizations increase, active COVID-19 case count drops: APH

Thursday's report from Algoma Public Health included 18 hospitalizations, up by two from Wednesday

Algoma Public Health's latest COVID-19 update is reporting 18 hospitalizations, a slight increase from Wednesday's report.

The number is up by two from Wednesday, though APH also reported a significant drop in active cases in the region.

Thursday's report showed 593 active cases in Algoma, down 32 from Wednesday.

There is also one additional active case that is a non-Algoma resident temporarily in the region.

The number of resolved cases in Algoma rose to 4,013, up by 93 from Wednesday's report, while the number of new confirmed cases is up up 61 from Wednesday to 4,606.

The number of completed COVID-19 tests in Algoma stands at 234,756.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
