It looks like the hot and humid weather might stick around a little longer than originally expected.

In an earlier heat warning, Environment Canada had said the passage of a cold front would bring an end to the heat and humidity Tuesday night.

But now, meteorologists think conditions could linger into Wednesday.

Kirkland Lake - Temiskaming Shores - Temagami, Ont. (049700)
North Bay - West Nipissing, Ont. (049800)
Manitoulin - Blind River - Killarney, Ont. (049900)

Current details:
Hot and humid conditions possibly continuing into Wednesday for some areas.

Hazards:
Maximum temperatures of 29 to 31 degrees Celsius.
Humidex values of 35 to 40.

Timing:
Possibly continuing into Wednesday for some areas. The passage of a cold front will bring an end to the heat and humidity late Wednesday.

Discussion:
Daytime high temperatures will be very atypical of early September, with highs reaching 29 to 31 degrees Celsius. A sharp cool down is expected in the wake of a cold front Wednesday night.

Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index approaching the high risk category.

The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

Check on older family, friends and neighbours. Make sure they are cool and drinking water

Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.

Outdoor workers should take regularly scheduled breaks in a cool place.
