With Remembrance Day, falling on Friday, Nov. 11., the Harvest Kitchen food venue will be relocating for one day to the French Club at 3 Mary Walk. The kitchen runs three days a week out of the local Legion branch.
“We are doing this out of respect for the Remembrance Day services that will be conducted at the Legion,” said Food Bank president Len Kutchaw whose group is one of the sponsors of the free meal program. “Next Monday, Nov.14., the Harvest Kitchen, will be back at the Legion.”
The Harvest Kitchen is a 26-week food security program that has been created and established by three local non-profit agencies that are committed to helping the vulnerable population in the community.
Meals are served from the Elliot Lake Royal Canadian Legion from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
“We invite anyone that is hungry and needs a healthy meal to join us. One hundred meals will be prepared on our operating days and offered on a first-come-first-served basis,” it was stated in a release from the group. “Everyone is welcome. There are no special criteria to access our program. The Harvest Kitchen is also family-friendly and fully accessible.”
The program offers both a dine-in and takeout option. No delivery option is available at this time.
The meals will be provided for free or for a ‘pay what you can’ financial donation. Organizers will also accept any non-perishable food item or new, packaged personal hygiene products as a donation towards a meal.
“We want to thank the entire community, our volunteers and Ecclesiastical Insurance for their support in making this food security initiative possible.”
