Gobble gobble! Residents enjoy a turkey dinner in support of new equipment for the hospital

This turkey dinner will make a lot of people very thankful long after the dishes are cleared

On Sept. 28, over 100 people arrived in the cafeteria of the St. Joseph's hospital to enjoy a turkey dinner in support of new hospital equipment.

Every year, folks come to dinner at the hospital for a great cause. Funds raised from the dinner will go toward purchase of three pieces of equipment for the hospital but what that equipment will be is not yet known.

The food was donated by the hospital cafeteria. The gift baskets were donated by members of the St. Joseph's Foundation Board of Directors.

Because of the interest in the dinner, two sittings were held: one at 4 p.m and another at 6:30 p.m., said board president Geraldine Robinson.

"I would like to thank the public for their help in purchasing gifts at the gift shop in the hospital," she said. "Quite a few of our funds stem from that."

Board treasurer Faye Steel also thanked Elliot Lake residents.

"Thank you, from the bottom of my heart," she said. "This equipment will benefit a lot of people."

The Foundation will also host a fundraising tea and a card party in December. Steel said to be on the lookout for flyers circulating the community in coming weeks for more information.
