Free skating and shinny hockey on outdoor rinks coming soon

Rink boards set up at Kiwanis Park and Collins Hall. The rinks will be available soon for drop-in skating and hockey

Two outdoor skating venues are being prepared in Elliot Lake. A small, skating-only rink has been set up in the parking lot at Collins Hall. A larger rink for hockey and skating is set up at Kiwanis Park

ElliotLakeToday reached out to Kari Kluke, Director of Recreation and Culture for some information and learned the following:

ELT: What the process will be, for this feature to become operational?

Kluke: Our Parks crew are working on the rinks. They are working on the Kiwanis Park rink first, clearing snow and preparing for floods.

ELT: When do you expect it will open?

Kluke: We are hoping the rinks will be available as soon as possible, weather permitting.

ELT: How will scheduling work for hockey and skating? Is there a cost to use the rink?

Kluke: There is no scheduling or cost to use the rinks. There are no times allotted for exclusive use. The rinks are available for drop-in skating and hockey.

ELT: And any other information the public should know as we look forward to this opening.

Kluke: We would like to remind everyone to have a safe and fun experience with the rinks. The use of protective equipment is strongly encouraged.

Please note that the rink at the Collins Hall is for skating only. Due to the location in proximity with sidewalks and roads, there is no hockey playing permitted at the Collins Hall.

If you wish to play hockey, please use the rink at Kiwanis Park. Additionally, please keep off the rinks with boots and/or street shoes.

And Kluke invited ELT to “Let me know if you have any other questions.”
