In keeping with our pledge to the people of Elliot Lake for transparency and to provide ongoing updates with regard to the status of our shelter situation, please be advised of our current situation as of Friday, Oct. 28.

A forensic Investigator attended 33 Perini Road Friday, Oct. 28 on behalf of our insurer. His report will take approximately two weeks to complete for release. Until then, we will not have a determination as to the building’s structural integrity, remediation or coverage for loss of business from our insurance.

We are pleased to note that Mayor-elect Chris Patrie and councillors elect have been meeting with city staff to see what the city has available to assist us in a temporary solution to resume our services to the community.

We also appreciate the suggestions from the community that have been emailed or otherwise directly submitted to the board for consideration. We simply do not have time or opportunity to respond to all the comments on social media but welcome direct messages to our board.

We are looking to fundraising initiatives shortly including GoFundMe, Canada Helps and Canada Gives. In the interim, you can also direct deposit donations through [email protected]. As a registered charity all contributions over $10 will receive a tax receipt upon request.

We also have many other fundraisers under review that will be promoted shortly.

Our goal is to remain viable as an organization and resume services to the community as quickly as possible.

Thank you for your continued support and good wishes.

The Board of Directors
Society for Animals in Distress
