The Ontario government continues to seek input from the province's business owners for their views on industrial electricity pricing and programs.
PC MPP Greg Rickford of Kenora-Rainy River, Minister of Energy, Northern Development and Mines in the Ford government, wrapped up a province-wide tour (which did not include Elliot Lake) on Friday in Chatham, where he met with business people in mining, agriculture and the province's chemical industries.
"We want to hear first hand on how we can improve our electricity system to make businesses more competitive." Rickford said in a written statement. "We need to ensure our job-creating industries can thrive in Ontario with fair electricity prices."
The consultation began on April 1 will conclude on June 14.
The Ford government is looking for input on electricity rate design, existing tax-based incentives, reducing system costs and regulatory and delivery costs. Consultation questions are available online with electronic submissions continuing to be accepted until June 14.
"We're fixing the hydro mess we inherited from the previous government. That includes finding electricity pricing solutions that work for industry, to enable them to expand their operations, create jobs, and remain competitive," Rickford said.
For sector-specific consultation, Rickford met with automotive, forestry, mining, agriculture, steel, manufacturing and chemical interests. That included stops in Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie.
