Five new COVID cases reported by APH

There are currently 15 active cases in Algoma, one of which is hospitalized

Algoma Public Health is reporting five new COVID-19 cases in the Algoma region.

The new cases bring the total number of cases in the region to 155 since the start of the pandemic.

Of the new cases, four are from central and east Algoma, while the fifth is from the Sault Ste. Marie area.

Cases 151 and 152, both tested on Jan. 25, were infected by close contact with a known confirmed case.

Case 153, tested on Jan. 25, is in the unknown exposure category, as is case 154, tested on Jan. 22, and case 155, also tested on Jan. 25.

Unknown exposure means the individual did not have any recent international travel or close contact with a known confirmed case.

All five people are currently self-isolating.

Including the new cases, there are currently 15 active cases in the Algoma region, one of which is hospitalized.

Earlier in the day Wednesday, APH announced an updated travel advisory for Chippewa County in Michigan, which will remain in place until Feb. 24.
