Fire update says danger is low to moderate in the northeast

Fires are to be ignited no sooner than two hours before sunset and extinguished no later than two hours after sunrise

The northeast region forest fire update says the fire hazard is low to moderate across the region.

There was one active fire in the northeast region by the early evening of April 19. Sudbury 2 is 1 hectare in size and not under control at the time of this update. The fire is located south of Ham Lake near the French River.

Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services is reminding the public to use caution when performing any outdoor burning.

"In order to dispose of yard waste and woody debris, we encourage you to use methods such as composting or using your local landfill. If you must burn, follow Ontario’s outdoor burning regulations," says Shayne McCool, information officer, northeast region.
