With the potential for severe thunderstorms through much of the area, Environment Canada issued a mid-afternoon tornado watch for the area including Espanola and Killarney.
A similar watch was issued for the Elliot Lake area, but has since ended.
The watch notes that conditions in the area "are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms, which may produce tornados."
The watch is expected to remain in place into the evening.
A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect this afternoon for areas including:
- Blind River - Thessalon
- Elliot Lake - Ranger Lake
- Searchmont - Montreal River Harbour - Batchawana Bay
- Sault Ste. Marie - St. Joseph Island
