According to a staff report in Monday’s council agenda package, the ESCO vendor that was to oversee the structural work at Centennial Arena has provided notice to the City that they are stepping away from that portion of the work.

An ESCO is an energy services company that provides design and construction services to upgrade building facilities with a focus on energy savings. The purpose is to incorporate design that results in future energy cost savings to help offset the cost of the renovations and upgrades.

The report explains, the ESCO vendor will continue with the non-structural work and the sub-vendor, Wood Research and Design (WRD) continues in their role as planned.

The staff report also states, “While these administrative changes have been occurring, Staff has been in receipt of ongoing alarms from the Structural Health Monitoring system that WRD installed in the fall of 2023."

The report also raises concern about the size and depth of the 2 foundation piers visually inspected. The report notes this is preliminary information.

On Monday, staff will ask council for $176,900, before taxes, for WRD design work. Staff also ask for an additional $10,000 contingency for geotechnical work related to the newly discovered foundation concerns.

The report also states, “Staff still believes that it is possible to open the facility for use in the 4th quarter of 2024.”

The topic is Item 8.3 - Arena repairs.

Previously, citizens wishing to address council could simply email the city clerk by noon of the meeting day. Recently, the City has changed the process. The request portal on their website with a ten-question form is here.

Council Meeting, Mon. Apr. 8 - 7:00 p.m. at City Hall. Open to the public
