St. Joseph’s General Hospital Elliot Lake (SJGHEL) is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of the Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococci (VRE) outbreak on the third floor of our Acute Care Hospital. After diligent efforts from our outbreak management team, in collaboration with patients, staff, and the public, we have effectively contained and resolved the situation.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the public, the outbreak management team, patients, and staff for their unwavering dedication and collaborative efforts throughout this challenging period. It is through your commitment and cooperation that we were able to swiftly address and contain the outbreak.

While the VRE outbreak has concluded, it is imperative to maintain vigilance and adhere to infection prevention protocols. Therefore, we remind all visitors to continue following the necessary precautions when visiting our hospital:

  • Practice good hand hygiene by washing hands with soap and running water for at least 15 seconds or using alcohol-based hand rub until hands are dry.
  • If you are feeling unwell, please stay home and rest, or contact your primary healthcare provider for guidance.
  • Masking remains a requirement within the hospital premises, and we urge everyone to comply with these guidelines diligently.

As we navigate through this period, SJGHEL remains committed to providing the highest standard of care while prioritizing the safety and well-being of our patients, staff, and visitors.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as necessary.
