Red Wings drop home decision to Voodoos

A three-goal opening period by Powassan was the difference

Hosting the Powassan Voodoos on Sunday afternoon, the Elliot Lake Red Wings dropped a 4-1 Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League decision to the East Division club.

The Red Wings fall to 11-27-1-0 with the loss while Powassan improves to 26-10-4-1.

Powassan forward Jackson Buffam scored first for the visitors at 1:31 of the opening period.

Carson Ricci made it 2-0 Voodoos at 9:04.

Alexander Bradshaw scored his 20th goal of the season on the power play at 14:45 to make it 30 Powassan

Colton Donaldson replaced Cameron Smith in net for the Red Wings in the second period.

Powassan made it 4-0 when forward Easton Robitaille got one past Donaldson at 9:13. 

The Red Wings finally got on the scoreboard at 18:44 of the second when forward Kjell Osborne beat Voodoos netminder Owen Wray. 

Wray got the win for the Voodoos stopping all but 1 of the 21 shots that came his way.

Red Wings netminder Cameron Smith stopped 14 shots int he opening period.

Donaldson stopped all but one of the 22 shots on his goal over the final two periods. 

The Voodoos continue to battle the Timins Rock for second in the East Division and, with 57 points, hold a three-point edge over the Rock.

The Red Wings have 23 points and still have a chance at a playoff position in the NOJHL's West Division. 

In other Sunday afternoon play, the Espanola Express blanked the Cochrane Crunch 6-0 while the Hearst Lumberjacks edged Timmins 5-4 in overtime.

Next up for the Red Wings a game at home against Greater Sudbury Cubs, next Friday night at 7 p.m.
