Nearly 300 LCBO agency stores will be opened in Ontario communities, some as early as this summer. Of these, 25 new outlets are being opened in northern Ontario, but none in Elliot Lake.

The latest rollout for a new alcohol retail plan came from the office of Nipissing MPP and Minister of Finance Vic Fideli on Thursday when he announced that 87 additional grocery stores in the province will be allowed to sell wine, beer and cider. That brings the total authorized grocery stores to 450.

David Clement, North American affairs manager of the Consumer's Choice Centre, said, "This is a positive policy from our perspective." He added. "More access is definitely appreciated because when you're going up to the cottage or enjoying the outdoors... it will be appreciated from consumers across the province."

"Whether driving to the cottage or running errands, consumers across Ontario will now have more places to pick up beer, wine and other alcoholic beverages,” Fideli said. "Our government is committed to delivering greater convenience to individuals and families, and this expansion is just the beginning."

The Ford government says the new locations will be called ‘LCBO Convenience Outlets’ to help consumers identify local alcohol retailers in their communities that offer a similar product assortment to LCBO stores.
