Dr. Adeel Amir relocates to Elliot Lake to practice family medicine.

After months of work, the Elliot Lake Physician Recruitment Committee and St. Joseph’s General Hospital have announced that Dr. Adeel Amir will practice family medicine in the city.

Dr. Amir will be seeing patients currently receiving care with the Elliot Lake Family Health Team (ELFHT), will assist in the hospital emergency department and work with the Oaks Rehabilitation centre for people experiencing addiction or substance abuse.

The doctor is relocating to Elliot Lake from southern Ontario. He is a graduate of the University of Pittsburg and has been working in the United States for three years.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Amir and his wife to the community,” said Nancy Ewen, Health Team executive director in a statement Wednesday. “The patients of the Elliot Lake Family Health Team and St. Joseph’s General Hospital will benefit greatly with the addition of this enthusiastic new physician to our medical staff.”

Ewen also thanked local recruitment support including the city, Retirement Living and ELNOS.

Ewen has provided ElliotLakeToday with a summary of the new physician Dr. Amir and his working arrangement in the community.

She said he is now a permanent member of the health team and, as such, will work as a locum for a little while, then begin his practice. He is taking on existing practice.

“If he were accepting patients, he would go to the HealthCare Connect list first, so we encourage anyone looking for a physician to enrol there,” she said.
