Elliot Lake Amateur Theatre Ensemble (ELATE) is preparing for its first public performance in over three years. This April 21, 22, 28 and 29 ELATE will be presenting an evening of comedy and music called April Foolery.

Performances by the popular group were first cancelled in February 2019 when the civic centre roof collapse took place over the theatre the evening before a scheduled performance that had sold about 300 tickets.

ELATE members in the theatre at the time escaped injury. Since then, COVID restrictions forced the cancellation of public performances.

“The April shows will consist of a number of short comic sketches performed by ELATE cast members plus special performances by Jim Graham and Mark Robinson whose music and comic talents will add variety and undoubtedly more humour to the evening,” said ELATE president David Black. “The show is being directed by Murray Finn."

The performances will be staged in the Elliot Lake Secondary School Drama room.

“Because this is a smaller, more intimate venue, there will only be 60 tickets sold for each performance,” Black added. “Tickets must be purchased in advance at Alpine Flowers and Gifts in the Paris Plaza. Tickets are $15 each (cash only).”

The four shows start at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.

“After a long layoff, ELATE members are anxious to get back on the boards in front of local audiences This type of variety show gives more members an opportunity to display their acting chops.”
