Diamond Cutters take playoff win in Elliot Lake 8-ball league (2 photos)

“All teams played amazing,” organizer Joanna Moggy said of the four evenings of playoffs

Elliot Lake’s 8-Ball pool league saw the Diamond Cutters secure a top playoff win, collecting prize money of $1,560. 

The final games to crown a winner took place on June 6 at the Moose Lodge with the Diamond Cutters beating the season’s top team the Northern Pikes which picked up a second place prize of $1,040.

The Diamond Cutters came out of the regular season in third place.

Four-way playoffs started on May 29 with other teams High Ballers and Tim and Section 8 Ball also vying for the coveted top spot.

In taking the win, the Diamond Cutters defeated the Northern Pikes 6-0.

“All teams played amazing,” organizer Joanna Moggy said of the four evenings of playoffs.

The winning team is comprised of captain Yves Berube, co-captain Murphy Ricard and members Bill Owl, Morris (Bud) Simpson, Zane Aguonia, Lee Simpson-Johnston, Brenden Beggs and Jacqueline Desrosiers Berube.

Members of the Northern Pikes are captain Charles Nelson, co-captain Daniel Burns and players Guy Meilleur, David W. Arnold, Dennis Groves and Al Cameron.

The prize money was presented by administrator Dennis Frauts.

“I hope to see everyone back on September 10 (when the league starts up again},” Moggy said. “Hoping to have more teams join in. I can be reached at 705-849-6771.”

The league currently has eight teams of eight players and is hoping to sign on enough teams to have 10 or 12 teams in the next season. All games are played at the Moose Lodge.
