COVID outbreak closes Elliot Lake hospital third floor

Second local health facility to lock down due to COVID outbreak.

St. Joseph’s General Hospital Elliot Lake (SJGHEL) has announced the closure of the third floor to visitors due to a reported COVID outbreak, CEO Jeremy Stevenson said in a news release today.

The closure comes after Algoma Public Health reported circumstances forcing the closure to all visitors on the acute care floor except designated staff.

It is the second facility operated by the hospital to be closed to visitors due to an outbreak. Elliot Lake’s St. Joseph’s General Hospital (SJGHEL) long-term care facility St. Joseph’s Manor on Spine Road issued the no-visitors order on Oct. 8.

The hospital also reminds people to wash their hands Among the measures in place to deal with the outbreak,

The hospital continues to ask people to wash their hands provide proof of full immunization and booster doses wear masks, social distance, stay home and contact a health provider if they are not feeling well.
