Elliot Lake has hired two contractors to do road and street maintenance.

The work involves applying calcium chloride on unsurfaced roads to cut down on dust and repainting of road and street lines as part of spring maintenance.

Acting director or Public Works Bill Goulding made council aware of the hirings at its meeting Monday evening.

He said both companies were hired because they have previously done work for the city and both came in with tenders that were under budget.

Pollard Distribution Inc. will take on the dust control work for about $45,000 with the bulk of the work expect on the gravel parts of Dunlop Shores Road. It’s expected the work will involve two separate applications of calcium chloride one in the near future and another later in the summer.

The city hired Trillium Pavement Marking for $71,433 plus applicable taxes to do the line painting and pavement marking.
