COLUMN: Condo complex's centre garden springs back to life

Stephen Calverley thanks Jane and June for their service to the neighbourhood

The centre garden at the condominium complex became neglected in recent years. The volunteer gardeners had moved away or become unable to tend it. The garden’s glory days seemed past as weeds overtook the flowers.

This spring, Jane noticed. Jane is a long-time owner at The Condos on Frame. With a few tools in hand, she began to tend the garden.

Soon, Jane’s neighbour, June, saw what she was doing and offered to help. Together, without fanfare, they tended the perennials.

Jane and June have last names, but their efforts were not for recognition. The photos show their gift to their neighbours. And now, a gift to all ElliotLakeToday readers.

Our society is different post-COVID. There’s a lot more angst and a lot less neighbourliness.

We stand at the crossroads of our “new normal.” Which path will we choose?

Jane and June, thank you for your gift. You give us reason for hope.
