Cochrane 7 region's largest wildfire, but is still under control

Most southern section of the region from North Bay to Port Severn and east to Carleton Place has a low to moderate fire hazard value

There 27 active wildfires in the Northeast Region, but severe risk is abating across much of the area, according to Saturday's update from emergency officials.  Of these active fires, six are under control and 21 are being observed, a news release said. The most southern section of the region from North Bay to Port Severn and east to Carleton Place has a low to moderate hazard.

Cochrane 7confirmed on June 2, remains the largest and most significant fire at 37,742 hectares but has been under control for a few days. The fire located northeast of Lake Abitibi.

Northeast Region    

There are currently 27 active wildland fires in the Northeast Region. Of these fires, six are under control and 21 are being observed.

Most of the Northeast Fire Region is showing fire hazard values from low to high. Fires of note:

  • Cochrane 7 was confirmed on June 2 and is now under control. It is a 37,742 hectare wildland fire located northeast of Lake Abitibi.

Help fight forest fires: Stay clear of waterbombers

When waterbombers approach a body of water, move close to the shore so they can perform their scoop safely. A waterbomber will not scoop from a lake or river if encroaching watercraft pose a safety hazard. Be safe, stay clear of waterbombers.
