The City of Elliot Lake and its council are looking to the citizens of Elliot Lake for feedback and opinions on what should be done about the leaky Centennial Arena,

Many say the roof of the wooden building has been leaking since March and, on Tuesday, Acting Mayor Andrew Wannan announced the city had no choice but to close it after inspecting engineers found issues with the building and recommended further investigation.

The city is asking for input on information to be delivered at an information session to be announced after further analysis of the condition of the arena is complete in the next seven to 10 days.

"We are seeking your input through a community information session to guide us as we contemplate next steps," said a release from the city today.

It also said the preliminary report of the engineers currently analyzing the stability of the Centennial Arena will be made available to the public once it's made available to the city.

"Please stay tuned as we will be announcing a community information session shortly," said the release. "We anticipate it will take place one evening either the week of Sept, 18 or the week of Sept. 25."

Speakers at the information session will include Andrew Wannan, Acting Mayor, who will deliver opening remarks and welcome attendees; Bill Goulding, Acting Director of Public Works, who will present the report and update attendees on the findings on the arena so far; and, Karilynn Kluke, Director of Recreation and Culture, who will answer questions about programming.

Attendees are asked to come prepared with questions, and feedback.

"It will ensure the opinions of community stakeholders are heard and valued as the city evaluates its options," said the release.
