Did you forget your boat in the parking lot? The city's bylaw office would like to speak to you.

Owning a sailboat can be a challenge. First there's sailing it.

But then there’s the question of where to park the darn thing?

Officials in Elliot Lake are looking for the owner of one sailboat that has been left high and dry – in a parking lot.

Problem is, the white, fibreglass boat is not on a trailer. It is resting on its side and appears to have been abandoned (some sailboat owners can sympathize).

The city said the boat was left anchored at the shoreline on Dunlop Lake during the winter.

Now that sailing season is drawing near, it has mysteriously made its way ashore and is listing badly to the port side, according to a photo posted on the city's Facebook page.

There was no indication of the boat’s condition or length, although it does carry a boat licence registration number near the bow.

It also looks like it could use a good cleaning, and maybe a mast.

If you are the owner – or you have information on who the owner may be – the city is asking you to call the bylaw department at 705-848-2287, ext. 2119, to claim your boat, or at least explain the situation.

And if the boat is not claimed? Maybe the city will have one interesting, and very large, item up for grabs at some future auction of lost and abandoned articles.
