Elliot Lake CAO Dan Gagnon has just announced the hiring of a new treasurer, following a lengthy search after the resignation of Dr. Timothy Vine more than one year ago.

The following is full text of a news release issued today by the City of Elliot Lake:

The City’s long search for a treasurer has come to a successful conclusion. Amy Sonnenburg has over a decade in a finance management role at the Manitoulin District Social Administration Board and will bring that experience to bear for the City. Sonnenburg will begin work as Treasurer for the City in late February.

Chief Administrative Officer Daniel Gagnon said, “With roots in the region, a track record of efficient financial management and excellent communication skills, I have no doubt Amy will serve the ratepayers of Elliot Lake for many years to come.”

Amy Sonnenburg noted, “I am honoured to have been selected to serve the City of Elliot Lake. I look forward to joining the senior management team and leading the City’s finances forward during this exciting time in the community.”

The position of Treasurer has been vacant since the fall of 2018. The CAO has been acting treasurer with contracted assistance from KPMG where needed. An executive recruitment firm was contracted in the summer of 2019 to assist with the recruitment.
