Elliot Lake council has signed an agreement with YMCA North Eastern Ontario to operate its summer day camp here.

Elliot Lake is contributing $2,000 in kind for equipment and providing the Collins Hall where most of the programs are taking place along with some day outings.

The program was cancelled in 2022 due to a shortage of qualified staffers. The agreement sees the city and YMCA providing the summer camp and its variety of activities for a $150 weekly registration fee.

“I’m glad to see this partnership. It’s good for the parents and it’s good for the children,” Councillor Charlie Flintoff said Monday evening with a memorandum of understanding signing between the city and YMCA.

Acting mayor Andrew Wannan urged those with young children to register for the summer camp with space still available.

“You can have your children sign up and it can be done weekly or multiple weeks,” the mayor said.
