The City of Elliot Lake issued the following update regarding the ongoing COVID-19 situation:

While there are no confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus in the Algoma District, the City of Elliot Lake and its community health care partners are closely monitoring the evolving situation and will respond accordingly when needed.

Facilities
All city facilities (including City Hall, arena, pool and Collins Hall) remain open and operational.

We are undertaking enhanced cleaning of high touch areas, including door handles, elevator buttons, service counters and railings, in all of our facilities.

Transit
Transit is performing additional cleaning and disinfection of all buses with a focus on touch and grab points, such as buttons, railings, handles and straps.

City programming/events
All programs, events and public meetings continue to run as scheduled. For questions about programs and events run by community groups, please contact the event organizer.

Tips for protecting yourself
Residents are reminded to continue to follow basic but important preventative steps to prevent the spread of illness, including COVID-19:
    •    Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer
    •    Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
    •    Avoid close contact with people and city staff
    •    Stay home if you are ill
    •    Self-quarantine if you have recently traveled abroad and/or have come into contact with someone known to be infected
    •    Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then immediately throw the tissue in the garbage and wash your hands
    •    If you don't have a tissue, sneeze or cough into your sleeve or arm
    •    Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces

The City is closely monitoring the situation and will update the city’s website and local media outlets if and when the community’s response to the pandemic changes.

There is no need to panic or bulk buy items. If you are experiencing any symptoms of fever, cough and shortness of breath, contact telehealth at 1-866-797-0000 or Algoma Public Health at 705-848-2314 (local) or 1-866-892-0172 ext 5404 (TF).

If you are thinking of going to the emergency room or any doctor’s office, call first to inform of symptoms.
