Rising food costs have seen increased traffic to the Blind River Food Bank.

The food bank has been undergoing a change of address with its yard sale opening at its new location at 183 Causley Street, at 11 a.m. this Saturday, Oct. 29.

The food bank has been serving clients at the rear of the Causley Street building every Thursday since June, but volunteers required more time to move the yard sale from its former location on Youngfox Road.

After the inventory was sorted and transported to the new building, volunteers needed several weeks to unpack boxes, stock shelves and price items before the new store could open to serve shoppers.

Yard sales will be open on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Tuesdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The sale of used household items, donated to the yard sale by community members, raises funds to support the Blind River Food Bank, a non-profit corporation that assists Blind River and area residents who are experiencing food insecurity.

“As food prices continue to increase, our local food bank has been helping more and more households,” said Brenda Ludgate, Vice-Chair of the Food Bank Board. “In September we served 75 households and a total of 160 individuals. We anticipate that even more people will require assistance this winter.”

“Our volunteers worked hard to move the yard sale,” said Steven Wells, Chair of the Food Bank Board. “They are excited to welcome shoppers to the new store for the first time.”

Now that the yard sale has moved to its Causley Street location, volunteers want to accept donations of household items only on Tuesdays and Saturdays and only during regular hours.

Yard sale volunteers appreciate receiving donations to support the food bank, but they do not want people leaving used household items at the door or on the property after hours.

The volunteers would also like to remind residents that the yard sale does not accept donations of clothing.
