Blind River council and the municipal office is expected to reopen on Sept. 7.
The reopening will depend on Algoma Public Health regulations in place at the time.
CAO-Clerk Katie Scott, in a council report what is hoped to be its last virtual meeting Monday evening, announced the expected date.
Since March 2020 council has been meeting virtually and the municipal office has been closed to the public.
“The municipality was forced into lockdown due to COVID-19 restrictions with council meetings moving to Zoom platform. While this has been working very well, we are all anxious to return to normal operations including in person council meetings,” Scott said in her report. “With discussion held with staff and Public Health it has been determined that the best path will be a gradual one through the summer months returning to full operations in September, following the Public Health regulations in place at that time.”
“We have installed plexiglass barriers in the reception area, Council Chambers and at all staff desks,” Deputy Clerk Pam Walsh told ElliotLakeToday.
The news was met with great enthusiasm by council members.
“We’ll see you here in September,” Mayor Sally Hagman said.
