Mayor Sally Hagman welcomed new councillor Jennifer Posteraro at a swearing-in ceremony prior to the start of Monday evening’s council meeting.

“This is an exciting time for our community having a new voice on Council and we are so fortunate for the interest that came forward.  Thank you to all of the candidates (five) who made their presentations last week,” she said in her regular address to council and members of the public.

I would also like to extend a warm welcome to Dr. Chad Workman and his family on their recent move to our area!  Dr. Workman is currently in the process of setting up his practice at the Huron Shores Family Health Clinic and will begin rostering patients in the coming weeks.  On behalf of all of the residents of the Town of Blind River and surrounding area, welcome Dr. Workman!

Yesterday we were fortunate to have a talk on the healing of plants given by Ernestine Niganobe at the Boom Camp Trails.  This event was sponsored by the Blind River Horticultural Society and there were over 50 people in attendance.  Ernestine instructed us on the medicinal qualities of drying plants and trees and suggested that Mother Earth is telling us it could be another snowy winter given the fruits and berries on the trees.  She also said that winter “bugs” such as cold and flu could be plentiful so drink a lot of plant-based tea.

“At this time, I would like to acknowledge the work of three of our Community Champions.  Ellis Nyman, Judy Brown and Mandy Speer have been working diligently around the town on our municipal gardens,”  the mayor added.   “These three have mulched, weeded and planted perennials and shrubs to ensure that Blind River continues to shine as a beautiful community!  Thank you, Ellis, Judy and Mandy for all your efforts.”

This Saturday, September 21, marks the Veterans Dinner at the Royal Canadian Legion. This is a time to acknowledge and honour our veterans and tickets are available.  For more information, sign up to [email protected]
