Blind River Mayor Sally Hagman concentrated her remarks around clean up and the environment as part of Monday evening’s council meeting.

“As the snow begins to melt, we are seeing a lot of garbage along our streets and trails. We ask those that like to clean out their cars to please put your garbage in one of the 29 bear-wise garbage bins located throughout our community,” she said. “To our Blind River angels who diligently pick up this garbage, we say thank you.”

She also noted that Earth Hour is taking place this Saturday, March 25, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.

“It’s a time to turn off the lights and do something positive for the planet. A little extra knowledge can go a long way – awareness is, after all, the first step before action,” the mayor said.

“So spend the hour deepening your understanding of our planet, the threats we face and what you can do to help. Or simply go for a walk. The stars will just be coming out, and it’s a beautiful time of the day.”

Mayor Hagman also talked about a mass notification system available to residents.

“The Voyent Alert system is ready for you to sign on,” she said. “If you are unsure how to do this, go to the Town of Blind River website.

"Once you have the app on your phone, not only will you be given a notification for events happening in the community, you could be a recipient of the $500 cash prize for signing on.

"It’s easy, it’s informational, and it’s our town’s way of keeping you in the loop.”
