Blind River Town Council here approved a $397,900 plus HST tender from Beamish Construction Inc. for the demolition of the courthouse building on Hudson Street.

The tender was the lowest of three bids that came in on the work. The courthouse has been closed since the start of the pandemic and was damaged due to water leaks.

Council put the work out for tender earlier this year with only one tender coming back. It then decided to retender the job with the three tenders coming in, according to a report from Tulloch Engineering.

Treasurer Sue Dent said the cost will be offset by a transfer of $205,000 from the reserve which council approved.

Once the building is gone the area will become a green space with bench seating.
