For the next year, at least it embraced a lower fee for smaller weddings

Blind River council has endorsed a $35 charge for smaller weddings held at the Marine Park pavilion and at Sellers Beach.

The decision allows for smaller 90-minute wedding ceremonies with a capacity of up to 20 people to be held at the two popular outdoor pavilions.

The 2022 Fees By-Law includes a $200 (+HST) rental fee for weddings at both the Marine Park and Sellers Beach.

Members of the community have expressed that these spaces are meaningful and are seeking consideration for weddings that may have limited guests, or simply wish to have an intimate ceremony.

“Blind River is introducing a lesser fee in order to allow a larger number of people to access Blind River’s services,” said Karen Bittner Director of Facilities and Community Services.

“We understand that not all people are seeking a large gathering for their special day, as such, have implemented a modest $35 fee that allows a couple to be married on the waterfront at one of our brand-new pavilions.”

“When a marriage licence is filled out, there is an area that asks for venue information. This allows those of all group sizes, budget, and ability (as these spaces are accessible) to enjoy an outdoor ceremony. Those wishing to have larger gatherings that involve a full-day, set up etc, are more than welcome to use the site at our established $200 rental fee.”

Council will reevaluate its decision in 2024.
