Blind River council has renewed a group health benefit plan for all its workers, with the exception of casual employees, when it met Monday evening.

The renewal was outlined in a report from deputy clerk Pam Walsh.

The plan extends to a range of health services partially covered for town employees and an increase in new services.

“A survey was conducted earlier this year to the members. The survey asked members how well they knew their plan, where their current usage was (health or dental or other) and where they would like to see enhancements,” Walsh said in her report.

“Annually administration requests possible enhancement pricing from our broker. This year based on the survey results, we requested an increase to vision coverage (glasses) to $600 from $400, increase to paramedical services; counselling, chiropractic and massage services to $750 from $500 and the addition of CPAP machines."

The plan is renewed annually in September and Blind River is part of a consortium participating in it and made up of 14 municipalities.

The renewal plus the enhancements equals $18,868.42 monthly for Blind River an increase of about $249 per month over last year.
