An expanded version of Community Days in Blind River not seen since 2019 is planned for July by a group of 10 people who have formed a committee to plan the event set July 11 to 13.

Committee members Nathalie Dubois and Sommer Francoeur met with council at its meeting Tuesday evening to outline what the committee is planning and ways it can fundraise to have the money to put on expanded event on.

“We are excited to share the development of a volunteer Blind River Community Days Committee (BRCDC). The committee’s goal is to revive our towns much-loved community celebration for the 2024 year and create a sustainable strategy to support community day celebrations for years to come.”

Blind River traditionally sponsored the event held at several municipally owned locations.

Councillors Jennifer Posteraro and Jim Dunbar both welcomed the plan to revive the event. However, both wanted more information on how the committee plans to raise funds. It was indicated the town could make a donation from its festival reserve if more concrete plans for fundraising and costs were available. The committee members also wanted to know how public donations could be received possibly through the town.

Council requested treasurer Sue Dent prepare a report on funding and how the town can be involved for the next council meeting March 4. Members of the committee will also be present at that meeting.
