CONSEIL SCOLAIRE CATHOLIQUE NOUVELON

On Nov. 20 and 21 from 9 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., some 40 Grade 9 female students from Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon high schools in Greater Sudbury and Espanola will take part in the activity entitled Explore Carpentry Day.
This activity, offered through the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP), will take place in the premises of the Carpenters' Union, located at 159 Marier St. in Azilda.
During this experiential learning activity, the girls will have the opportunity to participate in a construction workshop. They will have hands-on experience in carpentry, drywall installation and plastering while learning about the tools and products needed for construction. This group of CSC Nouvelon students will also learn related health and safety protocols.
The purpose of the experiential learning activity is to demystify specialized trades for girls and enable female students to learn about rewarding careers in this sector of the economy.
Statistics reveal that women are under-represented in the construction, industrial, service, as well as the motive power sector. By participating in this type of activity, the CSC Nouvelon is seeking to raise the girls’ level of confidence while initiating them to non-traditional careers.
The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon offers a French-language Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSC Nouvelon provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 6,700 students enrolled in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
