Area educators brave the cold during today's protest

Teachers, support workers represented by the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation took part in the one-day withdrawal of services

Elliot Lake Secondary School (ELSS ) educators braved -16C weather as they set up a picket line today forcing the school closure.

The walkout is the second one called by the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation (OSSTF) in its ongoing contract talks with the provincial government.

The union and its members are protesting calls by the Ford government for increased class sizes and mandatory four online classes required by students to graduate.

Teachers and support workers represented by OSSTF took part in today's full withdrawal of services, including those employed by the Algoma District School Board and the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board.

In addition, members employed by the Conseil scolaire de district du Grand Nord de l’Ontario as well as Conseil scolaire de district catholique du Nouvel-Ontario engaged in the full withdrawal of services at the following sites in the Elliot Lake region:
    •    École publique d’Elliot Lake (Elliot Lake)
    •    École secondaire Villa Française des Jeunes (Elliot Lake)
    •    École Saint-Joseph Blind River
    •    École Georges Vanier (Elliot Lake)
    •    École Sainte-Anne (Spanish)
    •    École secondaire catholique Jeunesse-Nord (Blind River)
