APH reports 100 new COVID-19 cases over last four days

Including five cases in Elliot Lake and area

Algoma Public Health (APH) is reporting 100 new cases of COVID-19 in the region from Dec. 24 through Dec. 27.

Of these cases, 81 are located in Sault Ste. Marie and area, 13 are in Central and East Algoma, five are in Elliot Lake and Area, and one is in North Algoma.

Nine of these confirmed cases were exposed through close contact of a confirmed case, while six are related to outbreaks in the area, reports APH. The exposure category of 48 of these cases is currently under investigation, and 37 fall under the 'unknown' exposure category.

According to the APH website, five outbreaks remain active in the region – Child Care Algoma (Pinewood Extended Day Program), Blind River Public School, Boreal French Immersion Public School, Parkland Public School, and Pinewood Public School.

There are currently 252 known active cases of COVID-19 across the Algoma district, including three hospitalizations.

APH has reported a total of 1,818 cases of COVID-19 in the region since the onset of the pandemic.
