APH reporting one new COVID death

Algoma Public Health is reporting the Algoma's 29th death related to COVID-19.

Per APH policy, further details on the death were not released.

APH is reporting an additional hospitalization in Saturday's report, bringing the total number of hospitalizations in the region to 13 as of Saturday afternoon.

The number of active cases in the region dropped by 16 to 604. There is an additional active case in the region that is a non-Algoma resident temporarily in the region.

APH is reporting 30 new cases in Algoma, bringing the total number of cases in the region since the start of the pandemic to 4,705.

The number of resolved cases in the region is 4,101, up 46 from Friday's update.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
