APH reporting four new COVID cases in Sault area

Algoma Public Health is reporting four new COVID-19 cases in the Algoma region.

All four cases are in the Sault Ste. Marie area and bring the total number of COVID cases in the region since the start of the pandemic to 414.

Close contacts of all four individuals have been notified.

Tested on Aug. 17, case 411 falls under the exposure category or unknown, meaning the individual did not have any recent international travel or close contact with a known confirmed case.

Case No. 412, also tested on Aug. 17, was infected through close contact with a known confirmed case.

Case No. 413, tested on Aug. 14, was infected through international travel.

Case No. 414, tested on Aug. 18, falls under the exposure category of unknown.

All four individuals are currently self-isolating.

There are currently six active cases in Algoma.

Regions in Algoma that have reported COVID-19 cases in the past two weeks include:

  • Sault Ste. Marie and area
  • Central and east Algoma
  • North Algoma

On Wednesday afternoon the Chippewa County Health Department, which covers the Sault, Mich. area, confirmed that the Delta (B.1.617.2) is currently present in the region.

APH reported its first known Delta variant case in early-June.
